About
Meet Maura
A writer & editor based in Nashville, writing for clients from coast to coast.
I’ve written for alumni magazines, college/university websites, lifestyle magazines, and news websites — and pride myself on always finding the right words for your audience.
While most of my writing takes place in Word documents, I’m also a pro at the Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and other web content management systems.
I previously worked as the Assistant Editor and Interim Editor at Holy Cross Magazine at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. I also worked as a Web Writer/Editor at Suffolk University in Boston and as the Director of Communications at a private high school in suburban Boston.
You can also find my byline on the figure skating news website, Figure Skaters Online, and in the US Figure Skating Fan Zone. A longtime figure skater myself, I enjoy covering the sport as a journalist and working as a coach. I teach skaters from ages 3 to adults at the Nashville Skating Academy. More on that on the Coaching page.
I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor of arts in American Studies, along with two minors: anthropology and journalism, ethics, & democracy.
What It’s Like to Work with Me

"Maura is an incredibly talented journalist who approaches each story with enthusiasm. A dedicated researcher with a genuine interest in what her interviewees have to say, she develops well-reported stories featuring sources that come to life. She also has a deep knowledge of how higher education works and what alumni want to read. Maura is what every editor hopes for — a writer who doesn't need to be edited."

“Maura is one of my most trusted go-to writers. I can always count on her to turn around an engaging, well-written story, even on a tight deadline. She’s dedicated to always getting the best story possible and is a real pleasure to work with — the kind of writer who makes my job as an editor easier.”

"Maura is a wonderful editor, writer, collaborator, save-writers-from-their-worst-selves wizard, idea-generator, and general all-around good human. She's the sort of editor who unfailingly offers praise and bolsters morale, but also the sort of editor who is kindly candid when narrative changes are needed. When she assigned me features for Holy Cross Magazine, she didn't just offer a fuzzy topic and scant direction (as some editors do); she offered key insights that helped me shape the story from the get-go. Maura also lives up to my ideal of a text-sensitive editor: she cuts and tweaks prose when necessary, but never siphons out the flavor. It's the writer in her that makes her such a good editor, I think, and vice versa. Work with Maura: You'll be happy you did, and you'll have serious fun along the way."
